My memories are sealed by fairies that find my rings
by magicians card tricks and TV dinners as a treat
by being a child and all the joy it brings
by the green fingered flick and dancing on your feet
for the beautiful homes you made for us and laughter shared
the lochs the fresh air and the trees
the warm space at the end of the bed when we were scared
for the stories you told as we fell between your knees
the treasure hunts and cryptic clues that led to gifts
the quad bike courses made for me and all my friends
whizzing on sledges through snow-flaked highlands drifts
for a fathers love on which a child depends
for Pavarotti and sing songs in the car
for pirouetting in the kitchen, you in all your grace
for knowing where home is even when I’m very far
and for Christmas decorations that bring a smile to every face
for even now that I am grown you are still there
for drinking wine and conversations late at night
I will say thank you for your wisdom and your care
because of you I know that things will be alright.
