What is a Marriage?

1 Comment/ in Love Lines, Poems / by admin

A marriage is a union of one lone wandering heart
Being bonded to another, so they never are apart
No matter where they travel, even the furthest shore
The distance makes them stronger than they ever were before

A marriage is a promise, a giving and a gift
Something that is constant as the pools of life, they shift
A sacred, special secret of a true love that you share
A knowing that the other will always be right there

A marriage is a lifetime of being with the one
It picks you up and carries you when you think you might be done
It’s standing up together, and facing this strange life
It’s saying ‘Hello husband’ it’s saying ‘Hello wife’

A marriage is a light that never has a doubt
Even through the darkest day, it never will go out
It’s a rock to cling to, it’s an anchor in the storm |
A cuddle when you need one most, it’s brave and kind and warm

A marriage is a muscle, it needs work to stay strong
It will make allowances for the things that you get wrong
But what it does best is that it sees the real you
And makes you smile and want to shout ‘I do, I do, I do!’

My Little Life

My Little Life is a dot upon the earth
So unknown and unknowing since the moment of its birth
Since the first breath was taken, the opening of its eyes
The things it has seen and done still take me by surprise

My Little Life felt so small that it hurt
It sometimes shied away to live life on the outskirts
Try as it might it could barely learn a thing
And up against the big bad world how could it really win?

It wondered what its point was in this great wide universe
And sometimes felt that things would just get worse and worse
In a land where the give seemed far smaller than the take
It often thought perhaps it was all just a mistake

But my Little Life did not know it would meet you
And it would be bowled over by the things you say and do
That you would make it view the world in a new exciting way
And it made my Little Life see the wonder of each day

You taught it that a Little Life can still do such great things
And it’s all about the happiness to others that you bring
That it’s kindness, caring, laughter, and generosity
Compassion, knowledge, friendship that are things that set you free

So while my Little Life has had its ups and downs
It’s enriched by the love of those that it has found
And now my Little Life is entwined within yours
It seems my Little Life is much bigger than before.

Love and its Frumpy Friend

‘Love you are so delicate!’ said the Frumpy Friend
‘I love the way you flutter, I love the way you bend!
Can you give me lessons? I want to be like you
Please sweet Love do help me, just show me what to do!’

Love smiled politely, and gave a gentle sigh
I’m not sure if I can, but certainly I’ll try.
First let’s sort this wardrobe, you need a pretty dress
and let’s sort out this barnett -you really are a mess!’

So Love and the the Frumpy Friend went down to the shops
And the Frumpy Friend spents hundreds on a bunch of fancy frocks
Then she got her hair done, and a chemical facial peel
And a brand new set of chompers to really seal the deal!

‘So’ the Frumpy Friend cried ‘What do you think?’
She gave a frumpy twirl and an awkward frumpy wink
But Love was in a rotton mood and she would not reply
Too busy kicking rocks and heaving angry sighs.

‘Oh Love! What is the matter?’ you’re sad it’s plain to see’
‘Well you know this love stuff aint all it’s cracked up to be
it’s sometimes very stressful and quite a lot of work
but I just want to dance and sing and occasionally twerk!

‘I like to laugh and sing, and dance and jump and strutt
this isn’t how I want to feel, I’m really in a rut.’
The Frumpy Friend was silent as she thought of what to do
Then an answer came to her as she kicked off her shoe.

‘I think I can help us both at the same time
to be honest I am sick of dressing up to the nines
I’m happiest in my tracksuit and my holey socks
And with that she frantically ripped off her pretty frock.

If we work together we’ll be perfect can’t you see?
I’ll work at the friendship and you’ll be light and free.
When you need a friend, I will always be here
and when I want to dance and twirl just make sure you’re near.’

And so it was on that day forth they stayed side by side
For one without the other surely would have died.
The Frumpy Friend was happy in her comfy pants
But occasionally with Love on a rainbow she would dance.

What is Love?

Love is gently wiping an eyelash from your face
It’s knowing that this person is one you can’t replace
It’s understanding when to be there, and when to give them space
And when the space is needed being there for ‘just in case.’

Love is what you cling to when you have had a little fright
Love gives you a cuddle in the middle of the night
Love is something warming that makes the day seem bright
It gives the sun its sunshine, it gives the stars their light.

Love will give you courage when you just need to be bold
Love will buy you tissues when you have a frightful cold
When you’re flailing in the darkness it will give you a strong hold
It isn’t scared to tell you off when you need to be told.

Love doesn’t care when you look a big old state
Love believes in love, and often works with fate
Love will be your lover as well as your best mate
Love is so lovely is quite often makes you late.

Love cares above all things what it is you think
Love will pull you back when you feel you’re on the brink
Love is very handsome and has a cheeky wink
Love will keep you safe when you’ve had too much to drink.

Love understands if you need to be left alone
Love will listen when you want to have a moan
Its very good at knowing exactly when to phone
Love makes you feel like finally you’re home.

Love is not perfect but it is perfect for you
Though sometimes it can hurt like an uncomfortable shoe
But love only needs one thing, we all know that it’s true
That when it says ‘I love you’ it hears ‘I love you too!’

By the eyes of the Moon and the stars and the sun

By the eyes of the moon and the stars and the sun
Met a boy and a girl just as dusk had begun
They were in it for love and for laughter and fun
Little  did they know that they’d both met the one.
By a glittering stream they lay under the sky
and she said to him ‘promise you’ll never lie’
He turned to her and gave a small sigh
and said’ I’ll love you ’til the day that I die’.
As night settled in in its midnight blue grace
and the whispers of trees in this magical place
meant they knew there was nothing that they could not face
and no one that the other could ever replace.
As the night danced on gently a gold light was cast
Flocks of bright yellow birds in the sky they amassed
The love for the pair was their first and their last
They were each other’s future and present and past.
The night turned to dawn, a new day had begun
Holding each other tight, to the stream they did run
They were in it for love, and for laughter and fun
By the eyes of the moon and the stars and the sun.
